Shamanic Dream II

Review of Shamanic Dream II by Lloyd Barde, Backroads Music

"This is one of the finest pieces of music I have ever heard… a new dimension of sound that envelopes the listener in a gentle yet powerful shamanic space that invites us into the very heart of pleasurable listening. Heartbeat rhythms, prayerful flute passages, melodic and spacious, and peaceful mantra chants all intertwine with magical results."

Anugama is a gifted multi-instrumentalist who has been publishing his music since 1998. His compositions cover a wide spectrum of expression. Tribal rhythmic dance music. Shamanistic music of power and peace. Uplifting, lyrical melodies. Flute music reflecting cultures around the globe. He creates the ethereal music of vastness and silence that lets the listener explore their own inner expansion and stillness. His compelling rhythms, alive with exceptional feeling, sensitivity and skill, are at the heart of his music. Anugama's music creates an environment of uplifting support, confirmation and nourishment for heart and soul.

Anugama was born into a musical family in Cologne, Germany, 1952. At age 8, he began playing the flute, and at 12 took up the guitar. His musical creativity continued into his teens, when he began playing drums—a perfect milieu for the rock and soul music of the time. By age 19 he was playing drums with a number of local soul groups.

Around this time he also worked in a music shop in Hamburg. Surrounded by all kinds of musical instruments, he was free to experiment. Although he had no formal training, the music flowed through him with a natural ease. During this time many talented musicians visited and performed in Hamburg. This provided a wonderful opportunity for exposure to many musical influences and impressions.

Beginning at age 20, Anugama discovered the lure of travel and journeyed to a number of Asian countries. He explored Eastern spiritual practices, philosophies and mysticism, as well as richly diverse musical traditions. The 5 years he spent abroad proved to be a time of profound transformation.

Inspired by so many different cultures, Anugama became a skillful multi-instrumentalist. On his album's he uses classical and flamenco guitar, recorder, Native American flute, Japanese shakuhachi flute, Native American drums, keyboards and the human voice. He loves to create all kinds of music and his vast repertoire ranges from the zesty beats of African and Caribbean sounds, to the flowing rhythms of Hawaii and the meditative spirit of India and Japan. Not only is Anugama an accomplished musician, but also the composer, arranger and producer of his collection of 16 original recordings.

Anugama is fascinated by the way in which different frequencies create music and how these frequencies can affect our whole being. To this end he is well recognized for his achievements in healing music to support the spirit and inspire greater universal harmony.

Now residing in Hawaii, he receives great inspiration from the island's intensely beautiful surroundings. A joyous love of life and deep sense of peace radiates throughout his music. To this end, he continues to create and share his love of music with the world.
